The Lorax Looks Whimsical, Sweet, And Possibly Somewhat Seussian

A boy searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world from a greedy entrepreneur as he strips a forest of its stock of Truffula trees to manufacture clothing.

It may be a bit of a departure from the source material, but the more I see of The Lorax, the more I like the look of it. Dr. Seuss books can’t be easy to adapt, given how short they are, and considering how disastrous these adaptations can turn out (*ahem* How the Grinch Stole Christmas), I’d say that The Lorax is on the right track. It seems close in tone to my favourite Seuss adaptation to date – Horton Hears A Who – and, well, it’s all whimsical and stuff. I like it. I can see this being worthwhile. I just hope I’m not wrong. Oh, and Danny DeVito as the Lorax is pretty inspired casting.

The Lorax comes out March 2, 2012.
