Is This What We’ve Come To?

Maybe I’m just being a snarky bastard here, but I think movie marketing is getting a bit ridiculous. Exhibit A: these teasers…teasing the release of the trailer for Ridley Scott’s prequel to Alien, titled Prometheus. Now, this has nothing to do with the quality of the movie itself, as I think Prometheus actually looks pretty cool, but the act of releasing multiple teasers for the preview of a film seems not only excessive, but also just plain dumb to me. Think about it: this is like releasing a poster that says “In 3 days, the poster for this movie will be released!” It’s an ad for an ad, and that just doesn’t sit right with me. But what irks me even more is that, like a sucker, I’m posting these teasers because I’m actually pretty excited to see the first real look at Prometheus. Damn it! The stupid marketing worked! You’ve won this round, Ridley Scott. Rest assured, the proper trailer for Prometheus will be posted when it drops this week.

Prometheus comes out June 8, 2012.
