A Shoe-In For Best Documentary

The benevolent Mike Sullivan, age 65, has been shooting an epic stop-motion robot sex film in his apartment for the last 10 years. Obsessed with constructing the miniature robot porn stars, his apartment now overflows with thousands of them.

I don’t know how director Matt Lenski discovered Mike Sullivan. I don’t know how Mike Sullivan got into making porno-bots. I don’t know how this undeniably bizarre documentary wound up as a Sundance Official Selection. And I don’t care. Meaning of Robots looks absolutely hilarious and somehow very, very compelling in spite of its strange subject matter. It’s a real shame the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is so uptight, because I guarantee that I’ll watch this way sooner than any of the documentaries nominated for Oscars this year.

Meaning of Robots doesn’t have a distributor yet, but you can bet that if it gets a theatrical release, I will be letting you know when it happens.
