Well, this is pretty historical footage as 21-year old Jim Carrey makes his first national television appearance performing stand-up comedy on The Tonight Show in 1983, and… quite frankly, I doubt anyone watching this at the time would have expected him to go very far. He actually bombs pretty hard by doing a bad Elvis impersonation and barely garnering any reaction at all from the audience. But to be fair, that was probably the whole point, as Carrey seems to be channeling his inner Andy Kaufman and wants to leave the audience shaking their heads and going “WTF?!”. Hmmmm, he’d probably be a good choice to play that Kaufman guy in a movie someday…
