Not too long ago, Neatorama posted the image seen above, theorizing that Joss Whedon’s reference to the Weyland-Yutani corporation of the Alien universe (in the form of the logo at the top of the screen in this frame from Firefly‘s pilot episode) could very well mean that the Alien franchise’s continuity co-exists with the continuity of Firefly and Serenity. What’s kind of mind-blowing about this is that it means Firefly also exists in the same universe as the Predator movies, and if you include comic books as canon, the entire DC Universe too (Batman and Superman have encountered both Aliens and Predators). But I’m going to take it a step further with the featurette below, which details the design of the titular spaceship Prometheus.
Prometheus and Serenity are totally made by the same company. First off, there’s a basic similarity to the spaceship Serenity in that they both have an insectoid design. Fair enough, but hardly proof positive that they come from the same manufacturer. What I’m interested in is the VTOL system (Vertical Take Off and Landing) sported by both ships. A definite design similarity, if you ask me! Check out the featurette below on the design of the Serenity vessel (specifically at 5:00 and 6:30) to cross-reference the ships. I mean, Joss Whedon wrote Alien Resurrection, right? I think I could be on to something here!
Prometheus comes out June 8, 2012.
