Before They Were Stars: Sam Raimi in “Attack of the Helping Hand”

Yesterday, we did a Shouts from the Back Row podcast about the career of Sam Raimi. I’ve previously posted some of the short films Raimi directed during his youth (including the one that inspired The Evil Dead), but here’s one in which he made an acting appearance as a milkman. The short is entitled Attack of the Helping Hand and was directed by Raimi’s longtime collaborator and Evil Dead 2 co-writer Scott Spiegel. It features the talking hand from those Hamburger Helper commercials going berserk and attacking a housewife, and you can tell this obviously inspired the sequence in Evil Dead 2 where Ash fights with his demonically possessed hand. And, yes, Bruce Campbell was also involved with this short as he gets a co-cinematographer credit.
