It’s Eric Idle’s birthday, and I really want to write an extensive tribute to this comic genius and former Monty Python member. I want to talk about his early work on the series Do Not Adjust Your Set, where he met his future Python co-stars Terry Jones and Michael Palin. I want to mention that he has done voice work for the Transformers animated movie, a Discworld video game, and South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut. I want to mention all of that…but when it comes to Eric Idle, there’s one thing that pops into my head and overrides everything else. The thing that Idle himself considers his greatest achievement: the song Always Look on the Bright Side of Life. Eric Idle, genius that he is, turns 70 today.
