I am 16…forever.

With a story that spans centuries, two young vampires get into trouble in present day when Clara’s brothel business and Eleanor’s relationship with a sick young boy threatens to expose their immortal secret and put their lives in jeopardy.

Ever since Twilight and True Blood became popular, movies and TV shows have been over-saturated with vampire stories. Most of them have fallen under the middling-to-terrible heading, but every now and again a vampire story comes along that brings something new to the table. I’m thinking of Let the Right One In, in particular, but I also have some hope for this new Neil Jordan movie Byzantium. Saoirse Ronan and Caleb Landry Jones are both perfectly cast as vampires, and Jordan directed one of the more memorably decent vampire films with Interview with the Vampire. I can’t say as I’m hopeful that this film will stand out in the crowd of other vampire movies, but I guess you could say that I’m cautiously optimistic.

Byzantium comes out June 28, 2013.
