Tay Zonday personifies a new kind of pop culture celebrity – the Youtube celebrity. Zonday, whose real name is Adam Nyerere Bahner, shot to stardom when he uploaded a video to Youtube of himself singing his original song Chocolate Rain in his trademark baritone voice. The song’s perplexing lyrics, catchy melody and Zonday’s vocals turned the video viral, and to date it has over 92 million views online. Since Zonday’s rise to fame, he has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and Comedy Central’s Last Laugh 07, as well as in the music video for Weezer’s single Pork and Beans alongside other Youtube celebrities. Zonday’s online fame continues to this day. He turns 31 today.
