A couple years before he joined the cast of SCTV, Martin Short got his first major break by being cast in The Associates, a 1979 sitcom from the creators of Taxi about lawyers in a Wall Street law firm. The show was cancelled after only nine episodes, but strangely enough, it seemed to make enough of an impression to garner two Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations. I guess you can add The Associates to the list of solid TV shows which were cancelled way too soon.
