Heroes aren’t born. They’re created.

It’s been a long wait for this first trailer to the new Michael Bay-produced Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, and I, along with all the other Ninja Turtles fanboys, have been cringing every time a new set photo of Megan Fox as April O’Neil surfaced. And now the big reveal is here…and frankly, I wish I could say I was more surprised. This looks exactly like Michael Bay doing the Ninja Turtles. All the hyper-saturated colours, hyperactive editing, energetic camera work and super slow motion from the Transformers movie franchise is here, and the principal human cast features two actors who have previously worked with Bay. So I guess the only real surprise is the design of the Ninja Turtles – mainly that they seem to be gigantic. That’s cool, I guess. After watching this trailer, I’ve actually come to the realization that the Turtles might be a perfect property for Bay to adapt. They’re all surfer bros with similarly bro-y attitudes. But yeah, no surprises here. Except maybe that they changed the Turtles’ origin story, but even that doesn’t really bug me. Huh. I expected to be so much angrier.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comes out August 8, 2014.
