Before They Were Stars: Elizabeth Banks in “Shaft”

Early on her career, Elizabeth Banks went by her real name, “Elizabeth Maresal Mitchell”. The problem was that actress Elizabeth Mitchell (of Lost fame) was starting to find success around this time, so a name change was necessary in order to avoid confusion. Banks’ last credit under “Elizabeth Maresal Mitchell” was a very small role in the 2000 remake of Shaft as a background player during the scene where Christian Bale acts like a racist douchebag.
