Before They Were Stars: Steve Carell Portrays a Serial Killer with Second City

Now that the nominations for the 87th Academy Awards have been announced, it’s time for an annual tradition here at The Back Row: “Before They Were Stars” clips for this year’s nominees! Steve Carell surprised a lot of people with his creepy portrayal of an emotionally distant killer in Foxcatcher and has been rewarded with his first career Oscar nomination. In the early nineties, Carell actually portrayed a killer while performing with the improv sketch comedy group, Second City… well, sorta. In this sketch, Carell has a meet-cute with a girl in a laundromat and is nice enough to admit right from the outset that he is a sociopathic serial killer.
