Want a rare taste of a non-puppet endeavour from Jim Henson? Well, in 1969, the Muppets had not yet penetrated the mainstream, so Henson took any work he could find and was hired to direct an hour-long episode of the anthology television show, NBC Experiment in Theater. The episode was entitled “The Cube” and as you can probably surmise from the show’s title, it was experimental story about a man who is trapped in a cubical white room and is constantly visited by bizarre characters, but cannot seem to leave. Yep, this is pretty out there from a Jim Henson production. However, it’s worth noting that future Muppeteer Jerry Nelson makes an acting appearance here as a monk.
