Something is pulling me towards the base.

Paranormal Activity director Oren Peli hasn’t followed up the success of his smash debut with…well, anything, really. He made Paranormal Activity, and then the plan was for him to make Area 51 his sophomore film, but until this trailer came out, the last I had heard about the project was in 2011. At the time, it was slated for an October 2011 release, and an irate commenter (whose comment disappeared when I transferred the site to WordPress) even pointed out that the release date was unconfirmed. Well, anonymous commenter, you were right: Area 51 is finally coming out in May 2015, almost four years later!

So what about the movie? It looks like really generic found footage, low budget horror. Honestly, there’s nothing in this trailer that jumps out at me as interesting, fresh or new. Just go watch The Signal instead, guys, it looks like both movies deal with similar material, and at least The Signal isn’t shaky found footage.

Area 51 comes out May 15, 2015, at long last.
