He says he wasn’t alone…

The adventure of an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliott, who just so happens to be a dragon.

I’m not quite sure how to feel about this one, guys. On the one hand, the live-action remakes of Disney classics as of late have not been particularly good. I have yet to be impressed by the likes of Alice in Wonderland or Maleficent, and I don’t have high hopes for The Jungle Book either. On top of that, Pete’s Dragon was one of my favourite movies when I was a kid. But on the other hand, I fully recognize that Pete’s Dragon isn’t a very good movie. I tried watching it a year or two ago, and I couldn’t get through it, so it makes sense that they’d give it an update, I guess. Watching this trailer, though, I think they’re doing the right thing with this one. Disney has taken the premise of their original film – a boy and his pet dragon – and ran with it in a different direction. This looks as much like Where the Wild Things Are as Pete’s Dragon, and I’m oddly okay with it. It’s hard to judge from just one trailer, but I see the potential here. I wonder if there will be any musical numbers. Somehow, I doubt it.

Pete’s Dragon comes out August 12, 2016.
