The first webisode of Mortal Kombat: Legacy, the new web mini-series that’s paving the way for the new Mortal Kombat game and potentially a new Mortal Kombat movie, is online! It stars Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite) as Jax, Darren Shahlavi (small parts in Watchmen and Ip Man 2) as Kano, Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine) as Sonya Blade and Tamoh Pennikett (Battlestar Galactica, Dollhouse) as Striker. It’s not bad, the action is well-shot, and there are a few bits of visual flair that make it fun to watch, but overall…well, it just doesn’t feel much like Mortal Kombat to me. That’s not really a complaint, since I’m not a die-hard Mortal Kombat fan, but I can’t help but wonder when this web series will start feeling a bit more familiar.
