Before They Were Stars: Roger Moore in “The Rape of the Sabines”

Long before he was James Bond and just before he found his first major success on The Saint, Roger Moore appeared in this 1961 Italian sword-and-sandals epic called The Rape of the Sabines. The movie is based on a real-life historical episode from ancient Rome, where the first generation of Roman men abducted Sabine women and made them into their wives. This lighthearted trailer for the film is pretty hilarious, particularly when the narrator touts: “One of the bawdiest stories in history… made acceptable for the entire family”. Yep, nothing says “family viewing” more than a film with the word “rape” in the title!
