Wow, talk about a blast from the past! As a child, I remember watching an educational kids show on TVOntario called Cucumber (a.k.a. Children’s Underground Club of United Moose and Beaver for Enthusiastic Reporters), which aired during the seventies and eighties and was hosted by a moose and beaver inside a treehouse. I still remember how you could mail in a story or artwork to the show in Toronto and become an official member of the Cucumber Club. Anyway, it turns out that none other than a young Martin Short made an early acting appearance on the show as a character named Smokey the Hare. His future SCTV cast mate, John Candy, also had an early role on Cucumber at some point, though sadly, no clip seems to be available right now.
